How to Backup Cydia Apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
Cydia Backup apps allow you to backup your installed tweaks, hacks and much more. A few of them allow you to save SHSH blobs that are the keys to restore back to old firmware…
There are thousands upon thousands apps in the Cydia store for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. After jailbreaking, we install either paid or free best apps, tweaks and hacks. Its not easy to secure all these applications all the time. You must have backup these important tweaks.
iFunBox: Free PC Software that backup installed apps, tweaks and hacks including themes on your local hard drive at free of cost.
Often we have to upgrade, re-jailbreak and re-install all the previous apps, because after every 2 or 3 months new iOS update comes. With the new update, a new jailbreak utility also comes. You have to upgrade to latest iOS and re-jailbreak it. During these all activities, we often lost our important apps that we are using in previous jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Believe me, its very irritating and boring to install all these apps after every update or jailbreak.
There are a few Backup Cydia apps that allow you to take backup and restore your all paid and free apps. One backup cydia app is must for every jailbroken iPhone or iPad owner specially when we wanna upgrade our iOS. Backup app will save your time to install all those tweaks and apps one by one. When you have completed your upgrade, just re-jailbreak and restore all those apps using backup utility.
Top 3 Best Cydia Backup Apps
We have sorted out top 3 tweaks to backup Cydia apps easily. I would recommend to have backup all your important applications, tweaks and hacks before every upgrade, restore or re-jailbreaking.
1 OpenBackup: One of the best backup apps on Cydia store that is 100% free and offers reliable backup solution. Simple and most innovative features put it on number 1 in our top list. With just a few clicks you can download and re-install all your tweaks, hacks and applications.
OpenBackup is highly customized backup app that offers several features. For instance, you can backup all install Cydia packages within a single click or back up them one by one using advanced feature. Suppose, you wanna back up all your tweaks at once, just tap on backup button out there and OpenBackup will save all your install apps on your phone file system and when you are ready to restore those apps after upgrade or re-jailbreak, tap on Restore button.
Note: I would recommend to make a separate backup copy from file system to your local computer hard disk using iTunes sync option.
2 PKGBackup: It is the best backup option, if you are power user. It offers almost all features that any active jailbreak is looking for. It is one and only destination where you can take complete control on your installed apps. PKGBackup is feature pack with Sync option that does sync your installed Jailbreak Cydia apps on iCloud or iTunes directly based on real-time or schedule. However, it cost you around $7.99 one time charge. You can purchase PKGBackup from Cydia store.
PKGBackup provides all back-up features in one and only Cydia app. You can categorized and take a separate backup of your Cydia apps, sources, repos and Apple app store apps. The best feature that I love is, PKGBackup offers to save SHSH blobs of your current jailbreak and iOS. In case, I have upgraded to latest firmware such as iOS 10.2 and I wanna restore it to iOS 6.1.3 again, these SHSH blogs are the keys to downgrade iOS 9. $7.99 is work to pay for PKGBackup, if you really care of your jailbreak.
3 xBackup: If you don’t wanna go with above two backup iPhone apps, xBackup Cydia app is for you. It offers the combination of features that you could get through PKGBackup and OpenBackup. Its paid app and you have to pay around $1.5 for that.
The good part of xBackup is, it allows us to save application’s settings too. This part makes us crazy at the time of restoring old application settings. All the tweaks have it’s own settings. xBackup not only takes backup but also save settings for each apps.
Conclusion
PKGBackup is complete solution for backing up jailbreak Cydia apps without an issue. However, if you don’t wanna pay anything, OpenBackup is for you. Don’t forget to mention your favorite backup application.

PkgBackup is BROKEN, but the developer is still claiming it works and is taking money for it. Don’t be fooled! Save your ten bucks.

iFunBox only allows backup installed apps whether your iPhone is jailbroken or not. It doesn’t allow you to save SHSH blobs. If you have iPhone 4, you can downgrade it to 6.1.3 from 10 or newer firmware, if you have validated SHSH blogs saved
Great tutorial. You definitely broke it down and also talked about who should be worrying about backing everything up in the first place. Haven’t seen many tutorials do that. Great job!
