How to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode While Restoring iOS Firmware

The most confusing and complex things in restoring or recovery of iPhone iOS are “DFU” and “Recovery Mode“. I have seen the most experienced users also confuse about these two different modes and stuck in Recovery Mode.

What is Recovery Mode?

You have heard about recovery mode at many times specially at the time of restoring or recover iPhone data. Actually, putting iPhone into recovery mode is most common procedure and you will be asked to put it in recovery by many jailbreak expert in many situations.

The situations can be different, but the procedure will be the same for putting your device in recovery status. In the recovery mode, your iPhone will load iBoot, a bootloader that allows your device to recover or restore data without loading iOS, so that, it can be restore or recovery easily.

So, now its clear that what is recovery mode, Okay?

How to Get your iPhone into Recovery Mode?

Make sure that your iPhone is fully charged. Now follow these simple steps…

1 First, you will need to plug iPhone data USB cable into your computer’s USB port. (Don’t plug USB data cable with your iPhone at this stage) And Launch iTunes in your computer.

2 Now you will have to press and hold “Sleep/Wake” button for couple of seconds, until the slider becomes red. Once it becomes red, slide it and wait until your iPhone turn off.

3 At this stage, connect your USB cable with your iPhone and press and hold “Home button”. iPhone will be restart. (Don’t release home button, until below screen appears on your iPhone.)

4 As iTunes already opened, you will be asked to confirm the action and show you below notification on your computer.

5 Your iPhone is in recovery mode now. Now proceed, what you wanna do with it.

Conclusion

You should make sure that what you wanna do. DFU and recovery mode, both are different things. None of them can be replaced by other. If you are sure about recovery mode, then simply follow above steps carefully and you can put your iPhone in recovery mode easily.

I had Jailbreak & upgraded to ios 6.1.3. For some reason, i tried to restore using iTunes restore option & ended up in Recovery mode. Tried to get out of recovery mode…Why I am stuck in recovery mode? My phone started but keeps flashing & kind of keeps restarting… not sure what’s happening.
Now when i try everything to custom restore it gives me a 3194 error. Any help please?

Hi there, I need some help regarding my issue. I wanted to save my SHSH blob for I wanted to update my iPhone with iOS 5.1 due to warranty issue, I downloaded ifaith put my device into recovery mode but when Ifaith tried load it suddenly wont respond is there a way to solve my problem? iPhone Recovery Mode
I followed these instructions and everything worked fine until exiting recovery mode, now I am in a bootloop. I didn’t use Tinyumbrella to exit because my device didn’t show up, do I have to restart this process?

Hi I have iTunes 11.1.3 my iPhone have firmware 8.1 I try to upgrade to10.1.0.
My iTunes don’t give me any upgrade to my iPhone, I try to downgrade nothing, I try upgrade in making download apart the firmware10.1.0 beta.
I put my iPhone in recovery mode start the process the iTunes no open or recognize the file I download firmware10.1.0. Need help

I thought that recovery mode could be accessed by turning off your iphone, holding the home button and plugging it back in. Is that the same thing you described but doing a backup first?

  I had to also hold the power button down. I recommend you use a stopwatch to get the timing just right before putting on recovery
