All 3 USB ports suddenly just stopped working. Nothing pops up – not even “USB Not Recognized”. Nothing. Nothing Happens. I tried uninstalling and resetting – it installs on its own just fine and still absolute nothingness. What is strange is when my iPhone is off and plugged in it’ll charge. The battery won’t pop up on the screen to let me know that its charging but once I turn my iPhone back on the battery is charged.

  • j0hn6

Finally, the notification alert of “USB device not recognized” has gone away… I no longer want to destroy everything… Thank you.

Regarding USB not recognized – multiple devices are not working – none detectable on Windows Vista, Windows 8.1
after unplugging it (seriously somebody said to do this), doing a system restore before the problem began, and actually utilizing windows’ many solutions like searching for software — this is what finally fixed the problem. i did have a mini heart attack when my keyboard and mouse weren’t working and i had to power off my computer manually. but my computer (vista) automatically installed the drivers for my keyboard so i was able to log-on. do everything as it says in this video and it should work

Is it possible that USB ports stop working when there is a power supply failure? I used to have a passive power supply and it died, the motherboard was working with system booting but I could not connect the USB scanner… “device not recognized”.. I did not try to solve that and múput that motherboard away.. but I still have it so should I give it a try?

Looks like USB device not recognized error

    • Helper

Sorry to hear that. It could be the USB hub or the device. If the device works on a different computer then it’s the USB hub. If the device doesn’t work on a different computer then it’s the device.

  • geebillafam

my usb works but for some reason when i connect my ipod touch it says usb device not recognized i tried everything

Did you use it on a Mac or some other operating system not Windows? Did you delete the files it came with originally?

dude does this work in laptop too?

    • Helper

If you’ve taken the battery off of the motherboard and that didn’t fix it. Either you have a bad USB device or port. It wouldn’t be a USB port driver issue because as you said one port works. Try plugging the device into the port where your internet USB stick is in. If it works in there then the one port is bad. If it doesn’t work then the device itself is bad.

Is there another way instead of taking off the motherboard battery? i heard people say that your PC will be laggy after that.

    • Helper

If they’re side by side they probably share the same hub. Which could mean one of the ports is broken. Since the other one works just fine.

  • Helper

If that doesn’t work you may need to go to the flash drive’s website. To see if there are any software tools that can fix it. If not you will probably have to buy a new one.

  • Helper

With the USB Flash Drive plugged in, go to Start/Run and typediskmgmt.msc and press enter. In Disk Management do you see your flash drive there? If so, highlight the Partition on the Flash Drivego up to the Tool bar and press the X. This will delete the partition on the flash drive (so be sure to have the right drive) making the spaceUnallocated. Now right click the Unallocated Space on the flash and Create a Partition. Format the Partition FAT32.

If the USB device works fine at home. But doesn’t work at school. There is a problem with the schools computer. If your school has a network you might want to try a different terminal.

I have shut my computer off many times but still it hasn’t worked, and the only usb plugged in is my internet stick which works fine , but i still get this annoying pop up!? please help?
    USB Device not Recognized

Sounds like a driver issue. You might want to check the fire wire adapter website for drivers. Or the device you’re trying to plug into the fire wire for drivers.

    USB Device Not Recognized

omg. you’re awesome. Thanks! Also – I fixed this problem yesterday because I was apparently using a USB-1.1 cable with one of my devices (TASCAM US 122L sound input box) instead of a highspeed 2.0 cable with it. It had never been a problem before but then started very consistently acting up, just with the one device regardless of port.

I was terrified that it had been damaged.

You could try what’s in the tut. But also make sure your phone software on your computer is up to date. It may also help to restart your computer.

  • Keith Spriggs

What I did was to take it a step further and remove ALL cables and this solved it

    • Helper

It doesn’t always work. It’s really just one solution out of many. The easiest solution would be to get a USB PCI card. Or uninstall the motherboard drivers for the USB hub/ports.

    Does it work on laptops

    • Helper

It should, you just have to remove the laptop battery (not the motherboard battery). The motherboard battery would be difficult to get to since it’s a laptop.
This method doesn’t always work. Because sometimes the USB port itself is damaged or it’s a driver issue.

Suppose, you are getting USB Device not recognized or not detected error

I have a PlayStation 2 adapter I plugged Into my friend’s laptop to play Halo and it work perfectly. Later I play Halo in my PC plug in the adapter and it said Unknown Device. I tried your method on my PC and didn’t work at all. HELP!!!!

    • GodlessManitoban

Have you tried unplugging the adapter and restarting your computer. Then plugging the adapter in again? Or tried a different USB port. I had this issue with a tablet. I think I solved it by updating my tablet software/driver.
